Meets With Prime Minister, Senior Officials Negotiating Release of the Hostages

NORTH JERSEY — U.S. Congressman Josh Gottheimer returned from Qatar after leading an official House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence trip.

Gottheimer met the Prime Minister and other lead Qatari negotiators and officials and the American Embassy teams who have been working day and night to help free the hostages being held by Hamas terrorists.

During his meetings, Gottheimer stressed the critical importance of continuing negotiations for the second phase of the deal to bring all the hostages home, especially his constituent, American Edan Alexander, a 21-year-old from Tenafly. Alexander is the last living American hostage.

Gottheimer participated in discussions with senior-level officials regarding:

  • The ongoing efforts to bring every remaining hostage home safely and quickly.
  • How critical it is to get more humanitarian aid into Gaza and to crush Hamas.
  • The status of the negotiations and what it will take to get to phase two of the deal.
  • How the Qataris are particularly positioned, and have a deep responsibility, to get Hamas to free more hostages like Edan Alexander, Gottheimer’s constituent from Tenafly, New Jersey.
  • What the future of Israel and the region might look like, and how Hamas will not pose threats to Israel’s sovereignty.

“In Qatar, I spent constructive and productive time with the lead negotiators focused on one core objective — to bring home the last living American hostage, my constituent, 21-year-old American Edan Alexander. We must get every hostage home. The United States should never leave any man or woman behind. We must also focus on the second phase of the American-backed deal that will see the release of the remaining hostages,” said Gottheimer (NJ-5), a Member of the House Intelligence Committee. “As a member of the House Intelligence Committee, I will not rest until every single hostage, including the five remaining Americans, are brought home.”
