Tractor-trailer overturns after collision on Route 202 in Hunterdon County

EAST AMWELL TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — Emergency crews responded early Thursday morning to a crash involving two tractor-trailers on U.S. Route 202 South near Sweet Valley Farms that left one truck overturned and another damaged, authorities said.

According to the Amwell Valley Fire Company, the crash occurred at approximately 4:40 a.m. when a truck loaded with dirt was pulling into the Sweet Valley Farms driveway to make a delivery. A southbound tractor-trailer traveling at highway speed reportedly struck the turning vehicle, causing a violent impact that overturned the truck completely.

Firefighters remained on scene for several hours, working to contain leaking fluids and remove debris from the roadway. Also responding were crews from West Amwell Fire Company, Lambertville-New Hope Ambulance & Rescue Squad, Amwell Valley Ambulance Corps, the Hunterdon County Hazardous Materials Response Unit, Superior Towing, and the New Jersey Department of Transportation.

Both drivers were evaluated at the scene, and one was taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries. All responding units cleared the area around 8:45 a.m. as the highway was reopened to traffic.

The cause of the crash wasn’t immediately known.
