Car fire extinguished at Sussex County Community College

NEWTON, N.J. (Sussex County) — A vehicle caught fire late Monday morning beneath the solar panel array at Sussex County Community College, prompting a response from the Newton Volunteer Fire Department, authorities said.

The fire was reported at 11:15 a.m. on Nov. 17 at the campus on College Hill Road. According to police dispatch, New Jersey State Police troopers were first on scene and confirmed the vehicle was fully involved.

Fire crews arrived shortly thereafter, with the first unit deploying a hoseline to quickly knock down the flames. Firefighters then performed overhaul to ensure the fire was fully extinguished.

The blaze was contained to the single vehicle and did not spread to nearby cars or damage the solar panels overhead, officials said.

No injuries were reported. Firefighters cleared the scene in under an hour.
