Man charged after foot chase during Morris County traffic stop, police say
DENVILLE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — A North Carolina man is facing several charges after attempting to flee during a motor vehicle stop Thursday night on Route 46 in Denville Township, according to police.
Officers conducted the stop around 7:40 p.m. on Nov. 20 for equipment violations. During the investigation, the driver — identified as Erlin Rodriguez-Cabrera, 30, of Charlotte, N.C. — was found to be operating a vehicle without a valid driver’s license, police said.
As officers continued their investigation and suspected additional criminal activity, Rodriguez-Cabrera attempted to run from the scene on foot. He was apprehended shortly afterward and taken to Denville Police Headquarters for processing.
Rodriguez-Cabrera was charged with eluding and resisting arrest, hindering apprehension and multiple motor vehicle offenses, including driving without a license, failure to possess a driver’s license and obstruction of windshield for view.
He was released pending a mandatory appearance in Denville Township Municipal Court.
