Commissioners honor Del Val and North Hunterdon HS wrestling teams for state championship wins

HUNTERDON COUNTY, NJ – The Hunterdon County Commissioner Board recently extended congratulations to the wrestling teams of Delaware Valley Regional High School (DVRHS) and North Hunterdon Regional High School (NHRHS) for their outstanding achievements in the recent Group Championships.

Commissioner Director John Lanza shared, “These championship wins are a true testament to the hard work, perseverance, and teamwork displayed by these wrestlers, coaches, and supporting communities. On behalf of the entire Board, I would like to congratulate all these young champions for bringing pride and honor to Hunterdon County.”

The DVRHS Wrestling Team, coached by Andy Fitz, secured the NJSIAA Group 1 State Championship against Hanover Park, showcasing exceptional skill and sportsmanship throughout the season with a 19-3 overall record, making them a formidable force in New Jersey high school wrestling. Coach Fitz also spoke about the long and proud history of high school wrestling programs in Hunterdon County.

Dave Bell, head coach of the NHRHS Wrestling Team, led his team to a victory in the NJSIAA Group 4 State Wrestling Championship against Phillipsburg. Their impressive performance this season demonstrated strong commitment to excellence, finishing with a record of 17-6 for the 2024-2025 season.

In recognition of these remarkable accomplishments, Commissioner Lanza, on behalf of the entire Board, presented proclamations to both wrestling teams at the meeting, as family and community members looked on.

“Both teams have shown remarkable dedication, skill, and sportsmanship, bringing pride and honor to their respective schools. Their success is an inspiration to us all, and we are excited to acknowledge their hard-earned victories with these proclamations,” Lanza said.
