The closures will begin at 1 p.m. Friday, December 12, and remain in place until 5 a.m. Monday, December 15. Access to businesses on Center Street will be maintained throughout the work period.

During the closure, the following detours will be in place:

The work is part of the $24.8 million federally funded Route 31, I-78/Route 22 to Grayrock Road pavement reconstruction project, which will replace deteriorated concrete pavement with full-depth asphalt. The project also includes realigning the intersection of Center Street eastbound and Route 31 southbound to improve sight distance, extending the acceleration lane from I-78/Route 22 westbound to Route 31 northbound, drainage upgrades, guiderail replacement, new lighting, overhead sign installation and bridge deck repairs.

The project is expected to be completed by fall 2026.

DOT officials said the schedule may change due to weather or other unforeseen factors. Motorists are encouraged to check www.511nj.org for real-time travel updates and construction information.
