Budd Lake man charged with DWI after reportedly drinking at gas pumps, police say

MOUNT OLIVE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — A Budd Lake man was charged with driving while intoxicated after police responded to a report of alcohol consumption at a Route 46 gas station, authorities said.

Police were dispatched at about 2:22 p.m. on Jan. 24, 2026, to the Sunoco gas station at 341 Route 46 for a report of a man drinking alcohol while at the gas pumps. Officers located the vehicle, a white Toyota, as it left the gas station and entered the parking lot of a nearby 7-Eleven, where a motor vehicle stop was conducted, police said.

The driver was identified as Frank E. Dolan III, 50, of Budd Lake. During the stop, police said the driver showed signs of impairment, including the odor of an alcoholic beverage.

Dolan was asked to exit the vehicle and perform field sobriety tests and was subsequently taken into custody, police said.

He was transported to police headquarters and charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving and having an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle. Police said Dolan was released to a sober driver pending a court appearance.
