2.4 magnitude earthquake reported near Whitehouse Station, Hunterdon County

WHITEHOUSE STATION, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — A magnitude 2.4 earthquake was recorded Friday afternoon near Whitehouse Station in Hunterdon County, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The quake occurred at 3:42 p.m. EST on Jan. 30, with an epicenter about 6 kilometers north-northeast of Whitehouse Station. It had a depth of approximately 8.9 kilometers, the USGS reported.

More than 200 people across New Jersey submitted reports indicating they felt the shaking. There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.

In April 2024, a magnitude 4.8 earthquake struck northern New Jersey, rattling buildings across the region. That quake occurred at about 10:23 a.m. and was centered roughly 4 miles north of Whitehouse Station at a depth of 4.7 kilometers, according to the USGS.
