Boil water advisory issued for parts of Mount Olive Township after water main break
MOUNT OLIVE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — A systemwide boil water advisory has been issued for customers served by the Mount Olive Villages Water Company following a water main break in Budd Lake on Tuesday, officials said.
The Mount Olive Villages Water Company said the break occurred at 194 King Village, causing some customers to lose water service or experience significantly reduced water pressure. Officials warned that the incident poses a potential or actual threat to water quality and prompted the precautionary advisory.
Effective immediately and until further notice, customers in the affected service area are advised to bring tap water to a rolling boil for at least one minute before use, then allow it to cool, or to use bottled water. Officials said boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, food preparation, mixing baby formula, washing fruits and vegetables, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth and washing dishes.
Officials also recommended discarding uncooked food, beverages or ice made with tap water during the day of the advisory. Residents are advised not to swallow water while showering or bathing and to rinse hand-washed dishes with a diluted bleach solution or use a dishwasher with hot wash and dry cycles. Home water filtration devices should not be used as a substitute for boiling water, officials said.
Pets should also be provided with boiled and cooled water, and only boiled water should be used to treat minor injuries, according to the advisory.
The boil water advisory will remain in effect until repairs are completed and water testing confirms the supply is safe. Officials said crews are working as quickly as possible to restore water quality.
“The boil advisory is strictly for the villages water system, which is a privately owned system over on Wolfe Road this is not pertaining to any other systems in the township,” said Mayor Joe Nicastro.
