CCM’s Legacy Project announces free Spring 2026 lecture series open to the public

RANDOLPH TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — The Legacy Project at County College of Morris has announced its Spring 2026 lecture series, featuring three free public events that will bring journalists, authors and scholars to campus and online to discuss issues shaping the modern world.

The series, which is open to the community, will be presented both in person and via Zoom, expanding access to the programs beyond the college. All events are free, though registration is required for select programs.

The lecture series opens Monday, Feb. 16, at 6 p.m. with a virtual conversation featuring journalists Dani Anguiano and Alastair Gee, co-authors of the nonfiction book “Fire in Paradise.” Presented via Zoom, the program examines the Camp Fire that devastated Paradise, California, through firsthand reporting that documents acts of heroism, survival and loss. The authors recount the experiences of first responders, residents who narrowly escaped the blaze, and the aftermath of a fire that claimed 85 lives and destroyed about 90% of the town’s homes. RSVP is required to receive the Zoom link.

The second event will take place Thursday, March 26, at 12:30 p.m., when Dr. Johan Mathew, an associate professor of history at Rutgers University–New Brunswick, presents an on-campus lecture titled “Globalization on Two Wheels: A Curious History of the Rickshaw in the Global Economy.” Mathew, a cultural and social historian, will explore the role of illicit commerce in shaping modern capitalism. The lecture will be held in the Learning Resource Center, Room 121.

The series concludes Tuesday, May 5, at 12:30 p.m., with a discussion connected to the New York Times bestseller “The Moth Presents: A Point of Beauty.” The program is part of CCM’s One Book, One College initiative led by the School of Liberal Arts. The event will take place in the Learning Resource Center Café on the second floor, with light refreshments served. RSVP is required, and participants will be notified in advance which stories from the collection will be discussed.

For questions or to register, participants may email legacy@ccm.edu. County College of Morris is located at 214 Center Grove Road in Randolph, and visitors attending on-campus events may park in Lot 7.

The Legacy Project at CCM is an interdisciplinary initiative that offers lectures designed to engage students, faculty, staff and the broader community. The program aims to expand understanding of important social and global issues beyond the traditional classroom setting.
