Morris County officials honor fallen law enforcement officers during National Police Week
MORRIS COUNTY, N.J. — Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll and Chief of Detectives Robert McNally are recognizing fallen law enforcement officers from Morris County and officers who served within the county during National Police Week.
National Police Week is being observed this year from May 10 through May 16. First established by presidential proclamation in 1962, National Police Week and Peace Officers Memorial Day on May 15 honor law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty.
According to the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office, 30 law enforcement officers are among the 43 police officers, firefighters and rescue personnel memorialized on the 200 Club of Morris County monument located at the Morris County Public Safety Training Academy.
Prosecutor Carroll paid tribute to the fallen officers and those continuing to serve.
“Our police officers are dedicated to protecting our communities from criminals intending to commit crimes and victimize our citizens,” Carroll said. “We all need to pay them sincere respect and support their efforts, as they literally accept all risks and facedown those subjects with intent to harm.”
“Tragically, some pay the ultimate price for their provided protection,” Carroll added. “On behalf of the MCPO and all our Police Departments we want the surviving hero LEOs and all those currently serving to know we are here to support their enforcement and community efforts, and request that our citizens to say ‘thank you’ when interacting with our hard-working police.”
