Morris County woman accused of providing false identity during traffic stop in Fairfield Township

FAIRFIELD TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Essex County) — A Morristown woman was arrested after allegedly providing police with a false name during a traffic stop in Fairfield on Sunday night, according to police.

At about 10:22 p.m. Sept. 13, an officer was patrolling Route 46 West near Plymouth Street when he allegedly observed a gray Honda Civic traveling with an inoperable rear brake light.

The officer stopped the vehicle on Route 46 and spoke with the driver, later identified as Candie House, 24, of Morristown. Police said House allegedly told the officer she did not have her driver’s license with her and provided a name for the officer to use to confirm her identity.

Further investigation determined House did not have a valid driver’s license and allegedly provided officers with a false name in an attempt to hinder their efforts to determine her identity, police said.

House was arrested and criminally charged with hindering. She was also issued motor vehicle summonses for driving without a license and maintenance of lamps.

The hindering charge was placed on a summons with a mandatory court appearance scheduled for Nov. 5 in Fairfield Municipal Court.
