Sussex County seeking nominations for 2026 Senior of the Year
SUSSEX COUNTY, N.J. — Sussex County officials are accepting nominations for the 2026 Sussex County Senior of the Year, recognizing older adults who make significant contributions to their communities through volunteerism, advocacy and service.
The Sussex County Department of Health and Human Services Division of Senior Services is encouraging residents to nominate seniors who support others through efforts such as assisting veterans, delivering food to those in need or helping fellow seniors get to appointments.
County officials said nominees should demonstrate leadership, community involvement and dedication to improving the lives of others.
To qualify, nominees must be Sussex County residents, at least 60 years old and considered role models within the community.
The winner will be announced during Senior Day at the New Jersey State Fair on Aug. 6, 2026. The event will take place from noon to 3 p.m. under the Performing Arts Tent, with the awards ceremony scheduled for 1 p.m.
All nominees will be recognized during the ceremony for their service and commitment to the community before the Sussex County Senior of the Year is announced.
Nomination forms are available online at sussex.nj.us/SeniorOTY or by contacting the Division of Senior Services at 973-579-0555, ext. 1221.
Completed nomination forms must be submitted by July 8, 2026, and may be mailed, emailed or faxed to the Sussex County Department of Health and Human Services Division of Senior Services in Newton.
County officials said the selection process will be based on the information included in each application and encouraged nominators to provide complete details regarding volunteer work and community involvement.
