Motorcyclist killed in Sussex County crash, state police say

HAMPTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Sussex County) — A 63-year-old Newton man was killed Tuesday afternoon when his motorcycle left the roadway and overturned in Sussex County, according to New Jersey State Police.

Troopers responded at approximately 2:54 p.m. Tuesday to a motor vehicle crash on County Road 622 East near milepost 1.5 in Hampton Township.

According to State Police spokesperson Sgt. Jeffrey Lebron, a preliminary investigation found that Stephen Paino, 63, of Newton, was operating a Harley-Davidson motorcycle eastbound on County Road 622 when the motorcycle veered off the roadway near milepost 1.5, struck a rock and overturned.

Paino sustained fatal injuries in the crash, authorities said.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation. No additional information was immediately available.
