Hanover Township police warn residents of scam impersonating chief
HANOVER TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — Hanover Township police are warning residents about a scam in which callers falsely claim to be Police Chief Michael Loock.
According to the Hanover Township Police Department, residents have received phone calls from an individual claiming to be Chief Michael Loock. The caller threatens residents with false accusations until they fulfill a payment, usually through gift cards or a barcode scam.
The department said it will never request money over the phone.
Police also advised residents not to purchase gift cards for anyone claiming to be law enforcement, noting that gift cards are not a legitimate payment method for anything involving bills, taxes or any federal or local government.
