Woman charged after alleged assault on officer during Morris County traffic stop
DENVILLE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — A Jersey City woman was charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer and receiving stolen property following a traffic stop in Denville, according to police.
The incident occurred at approximately 1 p.m. June 12 on Route 46 East when officers stopped a vehicle that was being operated with a completely flat rear passenger-side tire, creating what police described as an unsafe condition.
Police identified the driver as Jaelynn Richardson, 23, of Jersey City.
During the investigation, officers determined the vehicle had been reported stolen in New York and that Richardson’s driver’s license was suspended, police said.
As officers attempted to place Richardson under arrest, she allegedly became combative and kicked an officer.
Richardson was taken into custody and transported to Denville Police Headquarters for processing.
She was charged with receiving stolen property and aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer. She also was issued motor vehicle summonses for driving with a suspended license and operating an unsafe vehicle.
Richardson was released pending a court appearance in Morris County Superior Court.
