New Jersey announces $518,000 in grants to support farm gleaning and seafood recovery
TRENTON, N.J. — The New Jersey Department of Agriculture has announced the availability of $518,000 in grant funding to help nonprofit organizations recover surplus food from farms and seafood producers and distribute it to residents facing food insecurity.
The funding is available through the fiscal year 2027 Gleaning and Seafood Recovery Support Program and is open to eligible nonprofit 501(c)(3) organizations that glean excess produce from New Jersey farms or recover seafood from New Jersey sources.
Food collected through the program must be distributed to organizations throughout New Jersey that provide food assistance to residents experiencing food insecurity.
“The Department of Agriculture is excited to continue the Gleaning Grant Program that supports efforts of organizations rescuing food from our farms and seafood producers,” said Ed Wengryn, New Jersey secretary of agriculture. “These grant monies help programs acquire tools for transportation, washing stations for produce handling and other needed resources to ensure food that would normally be left on our farms can be collected and donated to our emergency feeding community.”
The grant program is intended to support the purchase of equipment and resources needed to safely collect, transport and distribute surplus agricultural products and seafood.
Applications and additional program information are available through the New Jersey Department of Agriculture.
Completed applications and all required supporting materials must be submitted by noon EDT on July 31, 2026, to NJDA.Grants@ag.nj.gov. State officials said incomplete or late applications will not be considered.
Applicants who do not receive a confirmation email within 24 hours of submitting their application are encouraged to contact NJDA Grants Coordinator Billy Conners at william.conners@ag.nj.gov.
