Hunterdon Health earns national lung cancer care designations

RARITAN TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — Hunterdon Health has received multiple national designations recognizing the quality of its lung cancer care and diagnostic services.

Hunterdon Pulmonary & Critical Care, a specialty practice of Hunterdon Health, was designated a GO2 for Lung Cancer Center of Excellence in Lung Cancer Care, Biomarker Testing and Incidental Pulmonary Nodules. Hunterdon Medical Center and the Hunterdon Regional Cancer Center also received Center of Excellence designations in Lung Cancer Care and Biomarker Testing.

According to GO2 for Lung Cancer, the designations recognize healthcare providers that demonstrate patient-centered care, multidisciplinary collaboration and adherence to evidence-based standards for lung cancer diagnosis and treatment.

An estimated 237,000 Americans are diagnosed with lung cancer each year. Although it remains the leading cause of cancer-related deaths, survival rates have improved as new treatments have become available.

“We are proud to have Hunterdon Health join the community of GO2 for Lung Cancer Centers of Excellence that is national in scope and local in impact,” said GO2 Chief Healthcare Delivery Officer Joelle Fathi. “Across the U.S., the majority of people at risk for or living with lung cancer are served by a local community hospital near their home. Through the GO2 COE network of community hospitals, clinics, and academic and VA medical centers, we are fostering and supporting essential knowledge sharing and collaboration that brings national and global advancements in early detection, treatment and care close to home.”

GO2 for Lung Cancer said its Centers of Excellence are committed to patient-centered communication and shared decision-making throughout the care process. Participating organizations provide access to medical, surgical and radiation oncology services, as well as pathology, while following nationally recognized clinical guidelines.

“Hunterdon Pulmonary & Critical Care is dedicated to providing patients with the highest quality care,” said Dr. Hemal Mehta, pulmonologist with Hunterdon Pulmonary & Critical Care. “We are thrilled to be part of this elite network, setting an example for responsible treatment and care practices across the country and helping people diagnosed with lung cancer in our community live longer, higher-quality lives.”

Hunterdon Pulmonary & Critical Care has offices in Flemington, Bridgewater, Phillipsburg and Lambertville. Appointments can be scheduled by calling 908-237-4080. More information about the Hunterdon Regional Cancer Center is available at hunterdonregionalcancercenter.org.
