Hunterdon County Senior Center announces August, September programs for older adults
HUNTERDON COUNTY, N.J. — The Hunterdon County Senior Center will offer a variety of programs in August and September, including live music, a hands-on cooking class and a Medicare education seminar for older adults.
Hunterdon County Commissioner Shaun C. Van Doren, liaison to the Department of Human Services, highlighted the upcoming programs offered through the Hunterdon County Senior Center and the Division of Senior, Disabilities and Veterans Services.
“The Hunterdon County Senior Center offers an outstanding variety of programs that encourage lifelong learning, wellness, and community engagement,” Van Doren said. “Whether someone enjoys music, cooking, or learning more about important topics like Medicare, there is something for everyone. These activities help older adults remain active, connected, and engaged while continuing to enjoy new experiences.”
The Senior Center’s Guitar Jam Showcase is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 7, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the Hunterdon County Senior Center, 4 Gauntt Place in Flemington. The event will feature live music by the Guitar Jam Cats, performing songs by Elton John, The Beatles, John Denver and other classic artists. Light refreshments will be provided by Courtyard Senior Living.
The event is open to enrolled Hunterdon County Senior Center members ages 60 and older. Registration is available through the Senior Center’s lottery system by calling 908-788-1359.
On Friday, Aug. 28, the Senior Center will host its Silver Spatulas Cooking Class from 2 to 3:15 p.m. The hands-on class gives participants an opportunity to prepare meals, learn cooking techniques and socialize under the guidance of experienced chefs. Registration is available by calling the Senior Center.
The Division of Senior, Disabilities and Veterans Services, in partnership with the State Health Insurance Assistance Program, will present a free Medicare 101 seminar on Wednesday, Sept. 23, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the Senior Center Annex, 1 Walter Foran Blvd. in Flemington.
The presentation will provide an overview of Medicare Parts A, B, C and D, explain enrollment requirements and discuss the free counseling services available through SHIP to help residents make informed healthcare decisions.
“These programs demonstrate Hunterdon County’s ongoing commitment to supporting older adults by providing opportunities to learn, stay healthy, and remain socially connected,” Van Doren added. “Whether residents are interested in making new friends, discovering a new hobby, or gaining a better understanding of their Medicare benefits, we encourage them to take advantage of these valuable resources.”
