HANOVER TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — A Dover man faces drug and traffic charges after a traffic stop in Hanover Township led to the discovery of suspected ecstasy, according to police.
Police said the incident occurred on July 21 when an officer on patrol observed a suspicious vehicle and followed it. After witnessing several traffic violations, the officer stopped the vehicle, which was driven by John Casiano, 45, of Dover.
During the investigation, the officer developed reasonable suspicion that Casiano was being untruthful and requested consent to search the vehicle, police said. After being advised of his rights, Casiano signed a consent-to-search form.
Police said officers searched the vehicle and found a powder substance believed to be ecstasy (MDMA).
Casiano was arrested and taken to police headquarters for processing. He was issued a complaint summons charging him with possession of a controlled dangerous substance and was released pending a required appearance in Superior Court.
In addition to the drug charge, police said Casiano was issued several traffic summonses, including improper turn, possession of an open container of marijuana or alcohol in a motor vehicle, and operating a motor vehicle while in possession of a controlled dangerous substance.
