BRIDGEWATER TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Somerset County) — A 29-year-old Somerset man died following a crash involving a motorcycle and a pickup truck Sunday afternoon in Bridgewater Township, according to police.
The crash happened at approximately 4:12 p.m. Aug. 23 at the intersection of Finderne Avenue and East Main Street.
Police said responding officers found a disabled 2017 Ford F-150 in the intersection. The pickup was driven by a 68-year-old Somerville man who was not injured.
Officers also found a heavily damaged 2014 Suzuki GSX motorcycle and its 29-year-old operator lying in the roadway. Police said the motorcyclist was unresponsive and not breathing.
Officers immediately began CPR and continued lifesaving measures until paramedics arrived and took over medical care. The motorcyclist was transported to Robert Wood Johnson Hospital in Somerville, where he died from his injuries and was pronounced dead, according to police.
A preliminary investigation determined the motorcycle was traveling south on Finderne Avenue in the right lane and approaching East Main Street while the Ford F-150 was traveling north on Finderne Avenue.
Police said the pickup attempted to make a left turn onto East Main Street and turned into the path of the motorcycle. The motorcycle struck the passenger side of the pickup, ejecting the rider.
Finderne Avenue was closed for several hours while police investigated the crash.
The crash remains under investigation by the Bridgewater Township Police Department Traffic Safety Unit.
