NEW JERSEY — Atlantic Health and K Health have launched a new artificial intelligence platform designed to help New Jersey patients understand health concerns, determine what level of care they may need and connect with clinicians.
Atlantic Health announced the launch of Atlantic Health PatientGPT and Virtual Primary Care, two digital services intended to provide patients with a centralized starting point for accessing care.
PatientGPT is integrated with Atlantic Health’s electronic health record and MyChart patient portal. According to the health system, the AI tool can use information from a patient’s medical record to provide personalized responses to health questions rather than general search results.
Patients can ask questions about symptoms and other health concerns using everyday language. The platform is designed to help users determine an appropriate level of care and, when necessary, connect them with Atlantic Health services and clinicians.
Patients can also use the platform to schedule appointments through Atlantic Health Virtual Primary Care, including same-day appointments when available.

Atlantic Health said the combination of PatientGPT and Virtual Primary Care is intended to create a digital entry point through which patients can begin with a health question and, if necessary, proceed to receiving care from a clinician.
The health system said the technology could also improve clinical and operational efficiency by helping direct patients to services appropriate for their needs without requiring an initial visit to a physical location.

K Health said PatientGPT has also been deployed at other health systems and is designed around clinical information and clinician involvement.

Atlantic Health PatientGPT is initially being introduced in a beta phase and is expected to become available gradually to users across New Jersey over the next several months.
Atlantic Health said the AI platform is not intended to replace care from a physician. Instead, the system is designed to give patients another way to obtain health information, navigate care options and connect with medical professionals.
Through its MyChart integration, PatientGPT can draw on relevant information from a patient’s medical record when responding to questions. It can also guide patients toward an appropriate level of care and connect them directly with Atlantic Health clinicians when treatment or an appointment is appropriate.
