Centenary University welcomes nearly 200 new undergraduate students for fall semester

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (Warren County) — Centenary University welcomed nearly 200 new undergraduate students to campus for the fall semester during move-in day Friday, Aug. 21.

The incoming class includes more than 100 freshmen and nearly 100 transfer students from more than 10 states, according to the university.

Orientation weekend, titled “Storm the Campus,” featured a convocation, barbecue, dunk tank, comedy show, foam pit and other activities designed to introduce students to campus life.

Move-in day began Friday morning with upperclassmen helping freshmen settle into their new homes. Centenary University President John R. Schol also announced Charlotte Sampson as this year’s Hill Scholarship recipient.

A barbecue and involvement fair followed at Anderson Field, highlighting clubs, organizations and opportunities for civic engagement. The Hackettstown Business Improvement District, Trinity Church, Katarina Floral and other local businesses participated, giving incoming students an introduction to the Hackettstown community.

The university’s annual Presidential Welcome and Convocation was held in the Sitnik Theater. Darnell Burnett, a 2022 Centenary graduate and senior auditor at Ernst & Young, served as the keynote speaker and offered advice to incoming freshmen and their families.

“Invest in yourself,” Burnett said. “Be the author of your own story.”
