
SUV goes airborne off I-80 overpass, lands on Route 46 in Morris County
MOUNT OLIVE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — A driver was injured after an SUV overturned on Interstate 80, went airborne and landed on Route 46 below the highway in Mount Olive Township Monday night, according to New Jersey State Police.
Troopers responded to the crash at 8:48 p.m. on I-80 west at milepost 26.2, NJSP spokesman Trooper II Christopher Postorino said.
A preliminary investigation found that a Mitsubishi SUV was traveling west on I-80 when the driver lost directional control of the vehicle. The SUV overturned, struck the right concrete barrier, went airborne and traveled off the roadway before landing on Route 46 below the I-80 west overpass, Postorino said.
The driver suffered moderate injuries and was taken to an area hospital.
The crash remains under investigation, and no additional information is available.
