Congressman Kean secures $1.5 million in federal funding for Hunterdon County Senior Center expansion
RARITAN TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — U.S. Rep. Tom Kean Jr. presented Hunterdon County with $1.5 million in federal funding last week to expand the county’s senior center and increase space for programs serving older residents.
The funding will allow the county to transform the lower level of an adjacent county building into additional programming space and install an elevator to make the facility fully accessible, according to county officials.
The Hunterdon County Senior Center serves residents throughout the county and offers a variety of programs and services for seniors.
“Hunterdon County seniors deserve access to the services, resources, and community support they need to live healthy, independent lives,” said Congressman Kean. “I worked to secure this federal funding because this project gives seniors and families across the county state-of-the-art facilities. Our investment will strengthen essential programs, expand opportunities for social connection, and ensure local seniors continue to receive the support they deserve. I will always fight to bring our federal tax dollars home and put them to work for the people I represent.”
Hunterdon County Commissioner Director John Lanza said membership and programming at the senior center have continued to grow.
“The Hunterdon County Senior Center continues to grow year after year, both in membership and in the number and variety of programs we provide. Thanks to a $1.5 million federal grant, Hunterdon County will be able to transform the lower level of the adjacent County building into new programming space for our seniors and install an elevator that will make the facility fully accessible,” said Hunterdon County Commissioner Director John Lanza. “None of this would be possible without strong partnerships at every level of government. Thank you to Congressman Kean for advocating for this federal funding and for your continued support of Hunterdon County and our residents.”
Commissioner Deputy Director Jeff Kuhl said the center plays a broader role in helping seniors remain connected and independent.
“When we talk about the Senior Center, we are talking about much more than a building. We are talking about the network of services that allows our County to support seniors, help them remain connected to their communities, and, whenever possible, continue living independently,” said Commissioner Deputy Director Jeff Kuhl. “Thank you, Congressman Kean, and thank you for your continued partnership with Hunterdon County. Investments like the one we are celebrating today allow us to strengthen that commitment and make sure our services can keep pace with the needs of a growing senior population.”
Commissioner Susan Soloway said the expansion will provide additional space for existing programs while creating opportunities for new offerings.
“One of the things that makes the Hunterdon County Senior Center so special is the tremendous variety of programs available to our residents. There truly is something here for everyone,” said Commissioner Susan Soloway. “The expansion we are celebrating today will give our staff additional space to build upon these successful programs and introduce even more opportunities in the future. Thank you to Congressman Kean for his support of Hunterdon County and, in particular, for recognizing the importance of investing in our seniors.”
“This $1.5 million federal investment is a tremendous win for Raritan Township and all of Hunterdon County,” said Raritan Township Mayor Brad Perry. “Our seniors are a critical part of our community, and expanding the Senior Center ensures they have access to the programs and resources they rely on every day. We are deeply grateful to Congressman Tom Kean, Jr. for championing our residents and delivering these critical funds.”
Kean’s office said all 15 projects he submitted through the fiscal year 2026 Community Project Funding process have passed the U.S. House of Representatives.
