Centenary University earns national recognition for student well-being and prevention programs

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (Warren County) — Centenary University has earned the 2026 Campus Prevention Network (CPN) Seal of Prevention, a national recognition awarded to institutions demonstrating a commitment to evidence-based programs that support student success, safety and well-being.

The university announced the recognition Nov. 2, noting that only 12% of institutions and organizations nationwide receive the distinction, which is presented by Vector Solutions.

The CPN Seal recognizes colleges and universities that have demonstrated measurable excellence in creating campus environments where students can thrive. The designation highlights Centenary’s investment in research-backed programs addressing sexual assault and relationship violence prevention, mental health support, substance use education and community building.

According to Vector Solutions, institutions receiving the seal report first-year student retention rates that are 8.5% higher and on-time graduation rates that are 9.3% higher. The recognition is intended to highlight the relationship between prevention programming, student well-being and institutional performance.

“Supporting student well-being is an important part of our mission and our responsibility as an institution,” said Kerry Mullins, Vice President of Student Affairs, Centenary University. “Through prevention and well-being programming, we give students the knowledge, resources, and support they need to navigate challenges, make healthy decisions, and stay focused on their goals. When students feel supported and connected to their campus community, they are better positioned to succeed academically, grow personally, and make the most of their college experience.”

The CPN Seal is based on the Principles of Effective Prevention Programs, a research framework developed by Nation and colleagues in 2003. To qualify, institutions must demonstrate that their prevention initiatives incorporate evidence-based program design, measurable outcomes, cultural relevance and appropriately timed interventions.

The criteria also evaluate whether programs reach students throughout their college experience, are delivered by well-trained facilitators, foster positive relationships and undergo ongoing evaluation and improvement.

“Seal recipients represent the institutions leading higher education innovation in student success,” said Gil Schwartz, General Manager of Education, Vector Solutions. “Their commitment to evidence-based, measurable approaches to prevention and well-being strengthens their communities and drives institutional performance.”

Centenary is among more than 540 institutions nationwide included in the 2026 CPN Seal of Prevention cohort, which collectively serves millions of students.

University officials said the recognition reflects Centenary’s continued commitment to creating a safer, more supportive campus environment while helping students succeed academically and personally.
