MOUNT OLIVE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — Mount Olive Township is asking community members to help “Weigh Down the Wagon” with nonperishable food donations to support the Mount Olive Food Pantry ahead of the holiday season.
The collection began Sept. 1 as part of Hunger Action Month and will continue through Friday, Nov. 6. Donations can be placed in a wagon located in the lobby of the Mount Olive Police Department inside the Municipal Building at 204 Flanders-Drakestown Road.
The goal of the drive is to help stock the food pantry for the upcoming holiday season. All donations are appreciated, but only nonperishable items will be accepted.
Among the pantry’s most requested items are stuffing mix, corn muffin mix, cake mix, cake icing, mashed potatoes, turkey gravy, cranberry sauce, canned vegetables, vegetable oil, canned tuna, chicken noodle soup, tomato soup, pork and beans, mustard, ketchup, mayonnaise, coffee and tea.
For canned vegetables, the pantry is specifically seeking beets, corn, green beans, yams and mixed vegetables. Canned tuna in 5-ounce cans is also requested.
The township is encouraging residents to contribute throughout the collection period to help stock the pantry for the holiday season.
