DENVILLE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — Two family pets died in a two-alarm house fire in Denville Township last week that took firefighters more than three hours to bring under control, according to the Denville Volunteer Fire Department.
The fire department and mutual aid crews responded to a reported structure fire at about 12:22 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23.
Firefighters arrived to find heavy fire conditions, prompting officials to immediately call for a second alarm.
Crews quickly began a primary search of the home and found two family pets. Firefighters brought the animals outside, but despite efforts to save them, both died, according to the department.
Strong winds and water supply challenges complicated firefighting efforts. Crews worked for more than three hours to bring the fire under control.
Mutual aid was provided by fire departments from Mount Tabor, Randolph, Parsippany, Boonton and Morris Plains.
No additional information about the cause of the fire was provided.
