Three-sport USA athlete Robert Anthony to speak at Centenary University Oct. 13
HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (Warren County) — Centenary University will welcome motivational speaker, entrepreneur and three-sport USA athlete Robert Anthony to campus Tuesday, Oct. 13, for a free presentation focused on resilience, perseverance and overcoming adversity.
Anthony will share his “Anything Is Possible” message at 5 p.m. in Reeves Gymnasium. The event is free and open to Centenary students, faculty and staff as well as the public.
Anthony is a motivational speaker, actor, model and founder of Limb Possible. He has represented the United States in amputee soccer, paratriathlon and volleyball.
Born with fibular hemimelia, Anthony became a below-the-knee amputee when he was 10 months old.
His journey was featured in the Emmy-nominated documentary “Able,” and he has appeared on “American Ninja Warrior,” “Ink Master” and “Returning the Favor” with Mike Rowe.
Anthony has shared his message with more than 100,000 students and has spoken for organizations including Nike, CNBC, Microsoft and the U.S. Department of Housing.
“I want people to see me as someone who inspires them to do better, to be better, despite the circumstances,” Anthony said.
Dan Armida, Centenary University’s director of athletics, got to know Anthony through their work with Team USA and said Anthony’s mindset, perspective and purpose stood out beyond his athletic accomplishments.
“Having the opportunity to bring Robert Anthony to Centenary is incredibly meaningful because his message represents what we want our students to understand about themselves and their potential,” said Dan Armida, Director of Athletics, Centenary University.
Through his “Anything Is Possible” message, Anthony encourages audiences to overcome adversity, recognize their potential and move beyond what they previously believed was possible. His organization, Limb Possible, seeks to demonstrate the ability to overcome physical limitations.
“Anthony’s message aligns perfectly with our whole-student and whole-athlete philosophy at Centenary,” Armida said. “We want to prepare our students not just to succeed in competition or in the classroom, but also to develop the confidence, resilience, self-awareness, and sense of purpose that will serve them throughout their lives. I believe our students will walk away from their time with Rob thinking differently about adversity, possibility and, most importantly, what they believe is possible for themselves.”
