The presentation will focus on helping older adults identify increasingly sophisticated scams and learn practical steps to protect their personal and financial information.

“Educational programs like this provide our seniors with practical information they can use to recognize potential scams and protect themselves as fraud becomes increasingly common and sophisticated,” said Commissioner Van Doren, liaison to the Hunterdon County Department of Human Services. “Knowing the warning signs and understanding what steps to take can make a real difference in preventing someone from becoming a victim.”

During the seminar, representatives from Provident Bank will discuss how scammers target individuals through telephone calls, emails, in-person schemes and computer pop-up messages.

Participants will learn about common warning signs of fraud, ways to safeguard sensitive information and steps to take if they believe they have encountered or fallen victim to a scam.

Pre-registration is required by Monday, Oct. 19. Eligible participants can register by calling the Hunterdon County Senior Center at 908-788-1359.

The Hunterdon County Senior Center, operated through the county’s Department of Human Services, offers educational, recreational, wellness and social programs throughout the year.

County officials said the programs are designed to help older adults remain active, informed, independent and connected to their communities while providing resources that support their safety and well-being.
