USPS, New Jersey MVC offices to close Monday for Columbus Day
NEW JERSEY — U.S. Postal Service locations and New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission (NJMVC) facilities will be closed Monday, Oct. 12, in observance of Columbus Day.
All post offices nationwide will be closed for the federal holiday, with regular mail delivery and retail services scheduled to resume Tuesday, Oct. 13, according to the U.S. Postal Service.
Although post office locations will be closed, customers can continue accessing several postal services online at usps.com.
Available online services include purchasing stamps, ordering free USPS shipping boxes, placing mail on hold, submitting address changes, renting or renewing post office boxes and printing prepaid shipping labels through Click-N-Ship.
Self-service kiosks will also remain available in select post office lobbies nationwide, with many accessible 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The kiosks allow customers to purchase stamps, weigh and mail packages, print postage for Priority Mail, Priority Mail Express and international shipments, and access package tracking information.
Some postal locations also offer additional self-service options, including rapid package drop-off stations, shipping label printing through merchant-provided QR codes and USPS Smart Lockers for package pickup and drop-off.
Meanwhile, all NJMVC facilities, including motor vehicle agencies, road test locations and inspection stations, will be closed Monday in observance of the state holiday.
The facilities will operate during normal business hours for the remainder of the week, according to the commission.
NJMVC officials reminded customers that more than 25 motor vehicle services are available online at NJMVC.gov, which remains accessible 24 hours a day.
The website allows customers to complete eligible transactions, schedule appointments, review required documentation and find answers to frequently asked questions.
Nearly all in-person NJMVC services require an appointment, including permits, driver testing, document renewals, REAL ID applications, new vehicle titles and registrations.
Officials encourage customers to check the NJMVC website before visiting an agency to determine whether their transaction can be completed online or requires an appointment.
Both USPS and NJMVC facilities are expected to resume regular operations Tuesday, Oct. 13.
