Sussex County fire department receives $10K grant to purchase needed equipment
Donation made in collaboration with State Farm and the National Volunteer Fire Council
GREEN TOWNSHIP, NJ (Sussex County) – Green Township Fire Department is one of 100 volunteer fire departments across the nation to receive a $10,000 grant through the State Farm Good Neighbor Firefighter Safety Program.
The volunteer fire department is also one of only three grant recipients in New Jersey.
In collaboration with the National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC), State Farm has awarded $1 million in grants. The funding will help local fire departments obtain needed equipment to increase their responders’ safety, effectiveness, and ability to serve their communities.
State Farm associates, including Sparta State Farm Agent Alex Aguado, recently presented the $10,000 check to Green Township Fire Department.
“This is the inaugural year of the State Farm Good Neighbor Firefighter Safety Program,” said Alex. “Volunteer fire departments play a critical role in protecting our communities across the country, especially in small towns and rural areas. Unfortunately, these fire departments often operate on a tight budgets and struggle find funding for needed equipment. We’re thrilled to help Green Township Fire Department keeps its neighbors safe.”
The funding will be used to purchase new, portable radios.
“Our volunteer fire department relies heavily on donations and fundraising efforts to maintain our operations,” said Jeremy Willis, Green Township Fire Department Assistant Chief. “A grant like this is truly a game-changer. It will allow us to swiftly replace critical equipment, such as our broken portable radios. This will not only enhance our firefighters’ safety but also improve our overall effectiveness. Additionally, the grant frees up funds that we can allocate towards other essential needs. We are incredibly grateful to State Farm and NVFC for recognizing our department’s needs and awarding us this vital grant.”
In collaboration with the NVFC, State Farm aimed to award 50 grant to local fire departments. However, the overwhelming response prompted State Farm to double its commitment to 100 grants, benefiting even more fire departments.
State Farm also provided all applicants with a membership to the NVFC, so they have access to additional tools, resources, and training to help them thrive. NVFC is a leading association, representing volunteer fire, EMS, and rescue services.
