Morris County to host prescription drug take-back events Oct. 24 at three locations

MORRIS COUNTY, N.J. — Morris County law enforcement agencies will participate in National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, Oct. 24, offering three locations where the public can safely and anonymously dispose of unused, unwanted or expired prescription medications.

The collection sites will operate from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. as part of the nationwide initiative coordinated by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.

Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll announced the county’s participation alongside the Morris County Sheriff’s Office and several municipal police departments.

The program is designed to help prevent prescription drug misuse and abuse by providing a safe way to remove potentially dangerous medications from homes.

The Morris County Prosecutor’s Office is partnering with the Morris County Sheriff’s Office and police departments in Morris Plains, Morris Township and Randolph to coordinate the collection effort.

The following locations will accept medications from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24:

  • Stop & Shop Supermarket: 245 Littleton Road (Route 202), Morris Plains, NJ 07950.
  • ACME Supermarket: 690 Millbrook Ave., Randolph, NJ 07869.
  • ShopRite of Greater Morristown: 178 E. Hanover Ave., Cedar Knolls, NJ 07927.

Members of the public can drop off eligible medications anonymously at any of the three locations during the four-hour event.

After the collection concludes, the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office and Morris County Sheriff’s Office will gather the discarded medications and arrange for their destruction in a safe, nonhazardous manner.

National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is held twice a year and brings together federal, state, county and municipal law enforcement agencies to encourage the proper disposal of prescription drugs.

Officials said the initiative provides an opportunity to remove medications that are no longer needed and reduce the risk of misuse.

Those unable to attend the Oct. 24 event can use permanent prescription drug drop boxes available at participating locations throughout the county.

Additional information about year-round collection sites is available through the DEA’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day website.
