BASKING RIDGE, N.J. (Somerset County) — More than 370 volunteers gathered at Affinity Federal Credit Union’s headquarters in Basking Ridge last week to prepare nearly 4,900 sandwiches for food pantries and community organizations across northern New Jersey as part of the institution’s fifth annual Impact Day.

The volunteer effort supported 16 faith-based organizations and food pantries serving communities throughout the northern half of the state, spanning from Hillsborough to East Orange and north to Ridgewood.

Affinity partnered with the nonprofit organization Food to Table to coordinate the distribution of sandwiches to organizations assisting individuals and families experiencing food insecurity.

The annual Impact Day initiative brings together Affinity volunteers to participate in community service projects aimed at addressing local needs. This year’s event focused on helping organizations provide food to people facing food insecurity.

Through its partnership with Food to Table, Affinity was able to connect with organizations serving some of the communities most affected by food insecurity.

The nearly 4,900 sandwiches prepared during the event will help support the participating organizations’ efforts to provide meals and food assistance to those in need.
