Man sentenced to 6 years in prison for cocaine distribution in Sussex County
NEWTON, N.J. (Sussex County) — A 25-year-old Bergen County man has been sentenced to six years in New Jersey state prison after pleading guilty to possessing cocaine with intent to distribute in connection with an undercover drug investigation in Sussex County.
Demoy Woolley, of Elmwood Park, was sentenced Oct. 9 by Superior Court Judge Janine M. Allen in Newton, according to Sussex County Prosecutor Daniel M. Perez.
The charges stemmed from an undercover investigation conducted during the week of Sept. 29, 2025, by the Vernon Township Police Department and the Sussex County Guns, Gangs and Narcotics Task Force.
According to prosecutors, investigators learned that Woolley was traveling to Franklin Borough to sell cocaine. Undercover detectives subsequently located and arrested an associate whom Woolley had sent to complete the illegal drug transaction.
Investigators also obtained surveillance footage from a nearby store showing Woolley getting out of a vehicle that was later stopped by police while being used by his associate, prosecutors said. A search of the vehicle in which the two had traveled uncovered the cocaine Woolley had arranged to sell.
Woolley was subsequently charged with third-degree possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute.
On Aug. 24, 2026, Woolley pleaded guilty to the third-degree offense, admitting that he possessed less than one-half ounce of cocaine with the intent to distribute it.
In addition to the six-year prison sentence, Woolley received credit for 371 days already served in the Morris County Jail. He was also ordered to submit a DNA sample and pay $1,205 in court costs and fines.
