Assemblyman DiMaio to Gov. Murphy, AG Platkin: Focus on New Jersey, not President Trump
NEW JERSEY – Assemblyman John DiMaio is telling Governor Phil Murphy and Attorney General Matt Platkin to focus on crime in New Jersey instead of playing to national politics.
Platkin was in Boston Friday to lead a challenge to President Donald Trump’s executive order ending birthright citizenship for newborns of illegal immigrants.
“For years, Governor Murphy and the Democrats have lectured us about democracy, but the moment they lose an election, they’ll do anything to override the will of the voters. Instead of obsessing over Donald Trump, maybe Murphy and the attorney general should focus on fixing the mess they’ve made in New Jersey,” said DiMaio (R-Warren), the GOP leader.
NJ sued Trump over 70 times during his first term, spending millions of taxpayer dollars. Crimes surged during the pandemic, resulting in the state tightening its enforcement of laws, such as allowing police to pursue stolen vehicles, DiMaio said.
“In Trump’s first term Murphy and Platkin were more concerned with what Trump was doing than protecting the people and preventing crime,” said DiMaio. “The same thing is happening now. There are problems in New Jersey that need to be addressed, but the administration’s attention is in Boston.”
