ATV driver injured in Hunterdon County crash, charged with DWI

READINGTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — A man was airlifted to the hospital Sunday evening following an ATV crash on a Readington township trail, according to police.

Authorities say the crash occurred around 7:00 p.m. on July 20 on the Cole Road Greenway Trail, a property of the Readington Township Trail Association. Emergency responders from the Readington Township Police Department and Whitehouse Rescue Squad arrived to find the ATV had rolled over onto the operator.

The driver, identified as Erik Heider of Readington Township, was flown to Robert Wood Johnson University Medical Center in New Brunswick for treatment of his injuries.

Police charged Heider with driving while intoxicated and reckless driving.

The crash remains under investigation by the Readington Township Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit. Anyone with information is asked to contact Officer Ryan Donovan at (908) 534-0431.
