Man killed in fiery crash on I-80 in Morris County

PARSIPPANY-TROY HILLS, N.J. (Morris County) — A driver was killed Friday after an SUV ran off Interstate 80 and struck multiple trees in Parsippany-Troy Hills, authorities said.

New Jersey State Police troopers responded to the crash at about 11:35 a.m. on I-80 eastbound near milepost 42, according to State Police spokesman Sgt. First Class Charles Marchan.

A preliminary investigation determined that a Chevrolet SUV traveling eastbound left the roadway, struck several trees and became fully engulfed in flames, Marchan said. The driver, a 61-year-old man, sustained fatal injuries. His identity was not released.

The crash remains under investigation. No additional information was available.
