Barbara Metzger, Program Development Specialist for the Department of Human Services in Hunterdon County, retires after 26 years

FLEMINGTON, NJ (Hunterdon County) – The Board of County Commissioners recently issued a formal proclamation and extended a special congratulations to Barbara Metzger, Program Development Specialist for the Department of Human Services (DHS), for her 26 years of service with the division.

Barbara Metzger began her career working part time for the County in 1977, she later worked for the Division of Youth and Family Services, returning to the County in June 1997 as a Program Development Specialist in the  Division of Senior, Disability and Veterans services.

In 2022, Barbara received the Employee Appreciation Award, which is given to Hunterdon County employees who are nominated by their peers, for their outstanding work. Barbara was recognized for her excellent work ethic and her outstanding customer service to people with disabilities.

Director for the DHS, Meagan O’Reilly shared some thoughtful words about Metzger, “We are grateful to Barbara for her unwavering commitment to the people she served. She is a fierce advocate for her clients, and she has always maintained an excellent rapport with the residents. She has delivered quality services for the last 26 years with kindness and compassion. Barbara’s hard work and dedication to the DHS has been constant throughout the years, she has been a pleasure to work with and will certainly be missed.”

Born and raised in Northwest NJ, Jay has a degree in Communications and has had a life-long interest in local radio and various styles of music. Jay has held numerous jobs over the years such as stunt car driver, bartender, voice-over artist, traffic reporter (award winning), NY Yankee maintenance crewmember and peanut farm worker. His hobbies include mountain climbing, snowmobiling, cooking, performing stand-up comedy and he is an avid squirrel watcher. Jay has been a guest on America’s Morning Headquarters,program on The Weather Channel, and was interviewed by Sam Champion.
