Man arrested, facing charges for firing gun in Warren County

PHILLIPSBURG, NJ (Warren County) – A Warren County man is facing multiple charges after he allegedly fired a handgun in Phillipsburg, according to the Warren County prosecutor’s Office.

On Friday, April 12, at around 10:15 p.m., police responded to the 200 block of Stockton Street after receiving a report that someone had been shot, officials said.

Upon patrols arrival, officers were informed that no one had been shot but that an individual had discharged a gun, authorities said.

During the course of the investigation, Javon E. Singletary, 18 of Phillipsburg was identified as a suspect, but was unable to be located, officials said.

Singletary was located and arrested on Tuesday, April 30 in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, authorities said.

Singletary was charged with second-degree unlawful possession of a handgun, without first obtaining a permit, second-degree possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose, and third-degree commit aggravated assault by attempting to cause bodily injury to a person with a deadly weapon.

He is currently being held in the Lehigh County Jail in Allentown, Pennsylvania pending his extradition to New Jersey.

The second-degree crimes carry a maximum sentence of 10 years in the New Jersey State Prison and third-degree crimes carry a maximum sentence of 5 years in the New Jersey State Prison.
