Byram Township police promote Christopher Spaldo to sergeant

BYRAM TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Sussex County) — The Byram Township Police Department promoted Christopher Spaldo to the rank of sergeant during a ceremony Tuesday at the Byram Township Municipal Building, police said.

The department said the promotion ceremony was held Jan. 20, 2026, before members of the Byram Town Council. Spaldo, who previously served as a detective, was elevated to the administrative and supervisory position of sergeant, police said.

Police noted that many local students know Spaldo through his work as a L.E.A.D. instructor in the township’s collaborative Law Enforcement Against Drugs program with Byram Schools. The department also cited his community involvement as a longtime Scout leader.

“These are just some of the qualities that make him an ideal candidate and a welcomed addition to this administrative and supervisory position,” the department said.
