Car fire spreads to garage, damages home in Morris County
WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — A vehicle fire spread to a garage and portions of a home in Washington Township Tuesday afternoon, leaving the car destroyed and the residence moderately damaged, according to the Fairmount Fire Company.
Firefighters were dispatched shortly after 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27, to a reported vehicle fire in the driveway of a residence in the 200 block of Pickle Road.
According to the Fairmount Fire Company, responding crews arrived to find a vehicle heavily engulfed in flames near the home’s garage. The fire had spread to the garage and the floors above it, threatening additional portions of the residence.
Firefighters from Fairmount, Long Valley and Schooley’s Mountain responded and quickly attacked the flames, bringing the fire under control before conducting overhaul operations to check for remaining fire and hot spots.
The Long Valley First Aid Squad and rescue team also responded to the scene.
Because the area does not have fire hydrants, the Pottersville and Oldwick fire departments responded with water tenders to provide additional water supplies if needed.
According to the fire company, the vehicle was a total loss, while the residence sustained moderate damage.
Emergency crews remained at the scene to complete overhaul operations and returned to service approximately 90 minutes after the initial response.
The fire company did not report whether anyone was injured or provide information about what caused the vehicle fire.
