Commissioners award $100K grant to Hunterdon United Way

Deputy Director Soloway Addresses Members & Supporters at Annual Meeting

HUNTERDON COUNTY, NJ – Hunterdon County Deputy Director Susan J. Soloway last week attended the Hunterdon United Way Annual Meeting held at the The Loft in Readington Township.

Deputy Director Soloway addressed a crowd of over 50 people in attendance and presented a ceremonial check to Brenda Esler, CEO of Hunterdon United Way.

“I am pleased to present this grant award to the Hunterdon United Way to help further your important mission of assisting some of Hunterdon’s most vulnerable residents. My colleagues and I believe that the recently announced Nonprofit Grant Program represents a New Era of Partnership with our community leaders to create a lasting impact in our community,” Soloway said.

The $100,000 grant award to the Hunterdon United Way, was part of a $1 million grant program launched by the Commissioner Board for local non-profits who were on the front lines of responding to the COVID-19 Public Emergency Health Crisis and for those that experienced negative economic impacts as a result of the pandemic. Funding for the grant program came from State and Local Recovery Funds (SLRF), received by Hunterdon County under the American Rescue Plan.

In early June, Commissioner Director Jeff Kuhl had the opportunity to join with staff at Hunterdon United Way and conduct a tour of their Volunteer Outreach Center. Employees advised how the important grant funds awarded by the Commissioner Board would be put to use helping members of the community.

The Hunterdon United Way played an important role in the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency including distributing PPE, COVID test kits, social service navigation, and distribution of food those facing food insecurity.
