Committee passes bill to require Medicaid coverage for motorized wheelchairs for nursing facility resident

NEW JERSEY – The Senate Health, Human Services and Senior Citizens Committee Monday passed Senate Republican Leader Anthony M. Bucco’s (R-25) bill that would require Medicaid to cover motorized wheelchairs for nursing facility residents who are prescribed the motorized wheelchair by their licensed physician or primary healthcare provider.

“Every individual deserves to live with independence and dignity,” said Bucco. “This bill would be a vital step toward not only ensuring that those in nursing facilities can maintain their mobility and quality of life, but it also goes a long way in easing the financial burden on both residents and their families during our ongoing affordability crisis.”
