Congressman Kean leads bipartisan delegation to Kyiv

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Tom Kean, Jr. (NJ-07), in his capacity as the Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Europe, led a bipartisan Congressional delegation to Ukraine for meetings with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and other government officials.

Congressman Kean’s delegation arrived in Ukraine just two days after the House of Representatives’ historic passage of further supplemental assistance for Ukraine.

Several of the delegation’s meetings included engagements with the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, members of the State Border Guards Special Forces, Ukrainian civil society, and government ministries tasked with oversight and anticorruption efforts. The group also met with members of the United States Embassy in Kyiv.

Congressman Kean and the entire delegation also participated in a wreath-laying ceremony at the Wall of Remembrance of the Fallen for Ukraine, which honors the Ukrainians who have died fighting Russian aggression since 2014.

The delegation’s agenda included a wide range of topics like oversight of U.S.-provided assistance, battlefield updates from Ukrainian officials how Ukrainian society has advanced the country’s anti-corruption agenda, and efforts to ensure transparency of U.S. aid.

“We, on a bipartisan basis as members of Congress, are here for the people of Ukraine,” Kean said. “It is important that we stand with Ukrainians, as they fight for freedom and democracy. I appreciate the opportunity to lead a bipartisan Congressional delegation to Ukraine to meet with President Zelenskyy and other government officials. As chairman of the Europe Subcommittee of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, I remain committed to strengthening our partnership with Ukraine. Ukraine’s resistance to Russia aggression has inspired nations around the world and they have proven their unbreakable spirit and fierce perseverance in defense of freedom.”
