Contractor charged after argument ends with gun pulled in Morris County

MOUNT OLIVE TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) – A contractor has been charged after an argument at a Mount Olive Township home escalated when he allegedly pulled a gun on two other contractors, according to police.

On January 9, at 11:58 a.m., police responded to a residence under construction on Mount Olive Road in the Budd Lake section of the township after receiving a report of threats made with a handgun, authorities said.

When officers arrived, they spoke with two contractors at the residence who advised that another contractor working in the residence threatened them while brandishing a handgun after an argument, police said.

The contractor left the residence before the police arrived. Through the course of the investigation, which concluded on February 14, it was determined that the contractor involved was Austin J. Cole, 30, of Mansfield Township, police said.

Police contacted Cole, and on February 18 he turned himself into police headquarters where he was placed under arrest without incident, officials said.

Cole was charged with unlawful possession of a handgun, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, terroristic threats, and aggravated assault. He was lodged in the Morris County Correctional Facility pending a court hearing.
