Crews extinguish brush fire in Hunterdon County

WEST AMWELL TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — Fire crews responded Tuesday afternoon to a brush fire near Routes 202 and 179 in West Amwell Township, according to the West Amwell Fire Company.

Units were dispatched around 3:42 p.m. for a reported smoke condition in the area. Upon arrival, responders confirmed the fire originated from a property along Route 179.

Firefighters worked to contain the blaze, which burned an area of approximately 100 feet by 30 feet and involved storm-damaged trees from Hurricane Ida, as well as several hollow trees that had caught fire.

The New Jersey Forest Fire Service assisted at the scene, along with additional water support from a neighboring fire company.

Officials said coordinated efforts between responding crews brought the fire under control and ultimately extinguished it.

No injuries were reported.
