Crews extinguish car fire in Sussex County after fuel tank ruptures

BYRAM TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Sussex County) — Firefighters from multiple departments responded to a fully involved vehicle fire Friday night on Lackawanna Drive in Byram Township, according to the Byram Township Fire Department.

The blaze broke out around 8:30 p.m. on August 1. Responding crews confirmed the vehicle was fully engulfed in flames and reported that its fuel tank had ruptured. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire and contained the leaking fuel.

Assistance was provided by the Netcong and Green Township fire departments, along with Lakeland EMS. Sussex County Hazmat and Picatinny Arsenal Hazmat teams were called to handle the fuel spill cleanup.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known, and it was unclear whether there were any injuries.
