Daytime lane closures planned at I-80 Exit 34B to Route 15 for bridge repairs in Morris County

MORRIS COUNTY, N.J. — Motorists should expect daytime lane closures this week on the ramp from Interstate 80 westbound to Route 15 northbound for emergency bridge repairs in in Wharton and Rockaway, state transportation officials said.

The closures will take place from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 8, and Thursday, April 9. If work is not completed, repairs will continue Friday, April 10, during the same hours.

A single lane will be closed on the I-80 westbound Exit 34B ramp as crews perform emergency deck repairs on the Route 15 northbound bridge over the abandoned Mount Hope Mineral Railroad.

Officials said the left lane on the ramp, which becomes the center lane on the bridge, was closed earlier this week to begin repairs. On Wednesday, traffic will use the right lane while the left lane remains closed. On Thursday, the right lane will be closed and traffic will shift to the left lane, which becomes the center lane on the bridge.

Motorists are advised to slow down, use caution and expect delays when traveling through the work zone.

The repairs are part of a $23.2 million federally funded project to replace the Route 15 northbound bridge. The project also includes construction of a stormwater detention basin and resurfacing portions of Route 15 northbound and the I-80 westbound exit ramp.

Officials noted that the schedule is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Real-time traffic updates are available at 511nj.org.
