Delaware Township Fire Company awarded $255K FEMA grant to upgrade emergency radios
DELAWARE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — The Delaware Township Fire Company has been awarded a $255,000 Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to purchase new portable radios that will enhance communication and safety during emergency responses.
The new state-of-the-art radios will replace aging equipment, providing firefighters with more reliable communication during fire suppression, rescues, and other emergency incidents. The upgrades are expected to improve interoperability among agencies, especially in rural areas where communication can be challenging.
“This grant is a game-changer for our department,” said Greg Bunting, Chief of the Delaware Township Fire Company. “Our firefighters rely on dependable communications when responding to emergencies. These new radios will not only improve our operational efficiency but will also help keep our members and residents safe.”
According to FEMA, the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program is a competitive initiative that helps fire departments and EMS organizations nationwide obtain essential equipment, training, vehicles, and protective gear to better safeguard both the public and emergency personnel.
The Delaware Township Fire Company expressed gratitude to FEMA and to the community and regional partners who continue to support its mission.
